Dr. Fred Kurt Dr. Fred Kurt, member of the Asian Elephant Specialist Group of IUCN, has been a lecturer of Population Ecology and Conservation Biology at the University and the Pedagogic High School of Zurich, Switzerland, and at the University of Veterinary Science of Vienna, Austria. On behalf of IUCN, WWF International, UNDP, the Swiss National Foundation, the Smithsonian Institution of Washington and the Frankfurt Zoological Society, he carried out field studies on elephants and other large mammals in Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Morocco, Myanmar, Rwanda, Sri Lanka and Switzerland. Since retirement, he is involved in the European Elephant Group. Together with Dr. Marion Garai he published in 2007 the book "The Asian Elephant in Captivity" (Cambridge University Press, India).
